Default Fishing from the beach, help please?

I always go trout and bass fishing, and know alot when it comes to that... But I'm going down the shore in 2 weeks, and want to fish off the beach early in the morning. My questions are.. what kind of pole do I use? What fish am I going after? Also any ideas for bait.. and any tips for fishing off the beach? Thanks a bunch, I never did this before.
I will be fishing in New Jersey.

Beach fishing or pier fishing? Pending where you go, I recommend pier fishing, and before you enter they have poles, bait, everything you need, all you need is to bring is a folded chair, a cooler with drinks and snacks have fun.

In new jersey theirs many piers its soo much fun. Go hit Atlantic city when you get bored.

Use a regular fishing rod that you would use for bass fishing.

Go to a tackle shop in the area and get some Sandworms.
Rig them on a Live bait hook you could probably find at the tackle shop

You would be fishing for striped bass which are very similarly fished like bass.

Hope I helped a little.

I have done quite a bit of surf fishing on the TX coast, and the really cool thing about it is you can catch anything from the beach. We have caught perch, speckled trout, red fish, flounder, sand trout, stingray, and even a small shark once. As far as the equipment we always just carried a heavy action spinning reel, and it has handled everything we needed it to. we always get into the water to the first sand bar and fish from there trying to put the bait out around the second sand bar. We would use mostly shrimp for bait, and then cut up some fish that we caught and use cut bait. it really didn't matter we always caught fish. lots of fun for the kids too.. Lots of action
