How does a braid line compare with a mono nylon line in beach/surf cast fishing?

I beach fish a lot for salmon (& whatever small stuff about) & have always used 25lb Jarvis Walker mono nylon line. I use a braid line while boat fishing but have had problems with braid lines while rock fishing - too light & affected by the wind too much.

I have just bought myself a new surf casting front drag spinning reel & was wondering what strength line to put on it.

I hope someone can make sense of my waffling & can give me some advice. Should I stick to 25lb mono nylon line, or try braid line & increase the breaking strain strength to give me a slightly heavier line to combat the wind. The place where I do my fishing is actually named "Windy Harbour".
