Fishing near Nelson British columbia?

I am going on a trip up to Nelson b.c, and I guess we are going to fish the lake nearest to Nelson, or the river...My question is, what type of fish are in these waters and if you have ever fished them, what is the best way to fish these waters...I have some fishing experiance, mostly for little trout ponds haha...Thanks in advance.

Nelson is on the west arm of Kootenay Lake and is the home of the largest species of rainbow trout in the world. the Gerrard strain rainbow. 20-30 pound rainbows are fairly common especially this time of the year on the west arm. fly-fishing for them or back trolling plugs in the currents and eddies works very well. other fish in the lake included dolly varden, kokanee (landlocked sockeye salmon that get to a max of about 6 pounds), ling cod and sturgeon.
one of the best ways to get fish near nelson is with a spinning rod cast from shore with a grass-hopper (be sure to remove the wings) under a bobber with about 5-6 feet of leader. cast out into a back eddy, relax and wait. just about a sure thing.
i live just over an hour away and have been fishing kootenay lake for over 30 years.
