What is the best bait for California trout fishing in the summer?

Try Velveeta cheese. Cut in 1/4 inch cubes the night before. Lay it on wax paper over night. Those California fish might never have seen that particular outstanding trout bait before????????

Try use a small treble hook so it stays on the hook better.

Well, my cousins used Cheez-its, and the fish just kept biting! They are kinda hard to get on a hook, so we put them in nets. Either the fish are really stupid, or even fish can stand the irresistible taste of Cheez-its!
