in the mix is cabezon, sand bass, spotties, sculpin and along side in the sand are halibut. (World record butt on spear is from the inside of newport breakwater) I have caught white sea bass (many) sharks, rays and barracuda as well. You really need to be on a boat to fish them easily as standing on them your line always gets in the rocks and you loose the fish. I am using plastics only AA's,
*cast into a boil
*close the reel (and lock the drags) forcing it to cascade back to the rod as it drops (like a pendulum),
*take all the slack out of the line and watch it..... sometimes it bounces off rocks sticking out below then take up a half crank and point the rod at the descending line.
*anything other than nothing is a fish so set the hook and start cranking
*The fish which are backed into their holes in the rocks come out and hit falling baits and go back into their holes that's why you allow no drag and crank like a mutha to get'em out.
*if you let it drop to the bottom you will probably snag off the line in fact you will probably snag on seaweed anyway but no guts no glory. |
