I have a few yellow labs, white cichlid, rainbow cichlid(orange) 2 firemouth and 2 convicts, generally the nicer cichlids. But , i would like to add some more fish to my tank(its about a 55 gallon tank)I also have 2 tetras, they seem to get along fine with the cichlids.

You already have too many fish. They are all going to get quite large and non-schooling fish without a little territory to themselves will be stressed.

Kiss the tetras goodbye too... They will eventually be lunch.

ok, right off the start your gonna have problems, you have african cichlids and sa/ca cichlids mix. i have seen it done but only by guys that have been keeping them 20+ years. your africans will tend to reach max size around 6 inches, where your sa/ca will top out around ten -20 inches, depending on what it is. the convict dosnt get big but your firemouth will. and at full size your 55 will not house all of these fish. i would drop the sa/ca and just go with african. the africans also require different water than sa/ca. hope this helped.

african cichlids should only be kept with other africans and catfish indeginous to the same lakes, or at least tolerant of the same water conditions. firemouths and convicts are central american species that require soft water and low pH, in addition to a carnivorous diet. african cichlids, like the labs and the "white" cichlid (image search albino socolofi) and the "rainbow cichlid" (try image searching red zebra and kenyi) need hard, alkaline water with a high pH. they are also vegetarians primarily and too much meat protein will cause a condition called malawi bloat and kill them. the tetras will not last long, either.

convicts will also breed and become HIGHLY aggressive, killing anything that they see as a threat to their young. if they breed, either they or their fry (once matured) will kill off your other fish.
