is 8 pound fishing line strong enough to hold a channel catfish on without snapping?

i got a new reel and i have 8 pound fishing line on it and i'm getting ready to go catch channel catfish that usally way around 6 or 7 pounds will the line hold up to the fight?

Yes, as long as you have your hooks on a heavier leader and you are in open water. Most cats aren't very line shy, so you should go to about 15lb. test for cats that size.

that what you are attempting is ok for the parameters you`ve quoted, have you considered the possiblity of having a fish in excess of 50#???? are there larger spiecies of fish where you`ll be? extra insurance capability doesnt hurt
