What depth to fish for catfish?

Im going fish in a few days out at a local lake.. Its about 4 miles wide and has really muddy water. Its been raining lately and should make the water even muddier. My question is should i fish with a bobber on top or a sinker on the bottom? Im using hot dogs soaked in picke juice, vinegar, garlic and salt.
