...I find them now? Its different from fishing in the summer, because the water level is low here in the freshwater channels. Any tips would be appreciated though. More importantly, do catfish prefer deeper water or the shallows when its cold at night? They are supposed to come in a feed when it gets dark but with the cold, will it make a difference?

In cold weather I catch crappie out a little deeper or even in very deep water but suspended! I start at 8 to 10 foot deep edges then move as needed!Sometimes out to 30+ foot with the fish suspended around 8 to 22 foot deep.
Catfish look for deeper highly oxgenated water!Fish up sides of a hole in river for active fish!We are fishing a lake now for cats and finding them in 12 to 14 foot just on the break to deep water.

Come to Minnesota, we have them in just about every lake it seems like. Also the Mississippi river is a great source.
