in my opinion it is best to catch crappie in the spring (this is just my opinion) but they can be caught with precision in the hot summer. Crappie prefer shiners and minnows. that is really their favorite bait but they will also hit worms, salamanders, bugs, and other live baits. I caught my biggest crappie (around 2lbs or so) on a small 3 inch rapala casting near a fallen tree...Crappie usually travel together but not in schools as perch and some other game fish do. first try a decent sized hook with a bobber and hook the minnow through its back but not to far in! make sure it can still swim...cast it near structure (fallen trees, rocks, logs, a dock, etc)...oh yeah I almost forgot that Crappie like colder waters so head out toward a deep end where the water seems to be coldest (you rarely see crappie on the banks) well best of luck to you and hope you catch all the crappie your heart desires! |
