charter for deep sea in Destin Fl? going to destin on my honeymoon looking to do some surf fishing and was wondering where i might rent a rig for the week also i want to take my wife on a bottom deep sea fishing cruise. Not looking for a 5person charter but more like a 60 person big boat drop the line and reel them in. Ive done it a million times in Myrtle but never been to destin. Also what else would be fun for some young honeymooners?

Destin and South Walton County (there is no difference for most people) have a lot to offer you. The best thing I can suggest is to pick up a visitor's guide when you get here. Almost every gas station carries them and they are free.

There are a lot of charter boats in the City of Destin itself. I've never had a bad trip. I don't recommend any particular captain. Since it will just be the two of you, you shouldn't have a problem finding a charter to suit you.

As far as fishing pole rentals, I've never seen it here. However, a lot of new beach rental businesses opened up here, so someone might. The people at Half-Hitch Tackle might rent or know someone who does [(toll free) 877-369-4360 or at destin@halfhitch.com]. We also have a Bass Pro Shop if you can't find a rental agency and just insist on doing it (unless your fiance is into it, I would advise against it on your honeymoon). The locals may give you a hard time if you fish during the day. It attacts bullsharks.

Take a day and explore Highway 30-A in South Walton County. It is a beautiful drive with many shops and award-winning restaurants. Go to Cafe Tango at least one night. You will need reservations and it is PRICEY. However, it is one of the few places I paid $150.00 for a dinner for two and felt it was worth every penny. When you make your reservation, make sure to ask for directions; if you blink you will miss it.

Your wife will want to spend a day at Destin Commons and a day at the Outlet Mall. For you, Destin Commons has some good restaurants and bars in which to wait. It also has the Bass Pro Shop and a theater.

Of course, the beach is the biggest draw. Be careful along the road that runs along it. Lots of accidents and lots of children darting out between parked cars. Personally, I prefer one of hte several state parks' beaches. It costs $2.00 per car to get in, but there are fewer people and the beaches are nicer. Pay attention to the warning flags. we are starting to develope our second sandbar, which means the currents near the shore are strong and unpredictable. Don't underestimate the amount of UV rays reflected by our white sands, in addition to those reflected by the water.

And at least once while you're here, order the smoked tuna dip as an appetiser. Trust me.
