when should i get a sucker fish?

i got a tank a few days ago
i want to get a sucker fish to eat the algae
how long should i wait to get a sucker fish?

DO NOT get a "sucker fish", which are more correctly called plecos, unless you have a very large tank with good filtration. It's a common myth that plecos are a good fish to have in all tanks to help clean up algae--this is NOT true.

If you want small bottom feeders, get a shoal of cory cats or otocinclus cats. Corys can go in right after the tank cycles, but otos are a bit more delicate and thus you should wait until the tank is well-established and has some good algae growth.
