Is there a polite way to get a fish bone out of your mouth at the dinner table?

I'm usually sat in a restaurant, eating fish, and then you feel it in your mouth, and I haven't a clue how to get rid of it nicely. It's either open your mouth and try and get it out, or my usual run to the toilets and spit the whole lot out.

Is there a 'correct' way?
