Default tropical fish and nitrate levels?

our fish are new and the nitrate levels are tested weekly and have been fine.

the filter broke for a day or two before being noticed and was replaced as soon as possible. this one is much better and recomended.

the nitrate levels are still 4 days later showing very high levels. how can this be rectified?????

we need help as soon as!!!
