Default Fish and Pregnancy?

I'm not pregnant YET but I'm just planning ahead. I'm just wondering exactly what types of fish arent good during pregnancy? I know some are beneficial since it helps aid in brain development. Me and my husband absolutely LOVE fish. He is a hardcore fisherman and brings home fish all the time, and we just love eating it. It would be hard to give it up, but I could for the well-being of an unborn baby.
But is it freshwater fish you shouldnt eat? Or salt water? Is it mostly tuna? salmon? I know sushi is a NO NO because its raw.
Also, we love seafood too. Is it just raw stuff that is off limits? Thank you in advance!

It's imperative that you speak with your doctore re fish that you can eat and ones you cannot. There are certain fish you CANNOT eat at all during your pregnancy- you are right. Search the web for the answers and you should kow what fish your hubby catches while out- that way you know which to stay away from- good luck!

Def. stay away from sushi... i love sushi and i used to sneak it when i first became pregnant, but its def. a no no .

here's some advice from:
http://womenshealth.gov/pregnancy/pregnancy/eat.cfm

Should I eat fish when I'm pregnant?
Fish and shellfish can be part of a healthy diet. They are a great source of protein and heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids. But almost all fish and shellfish contain a harmful substance called mercury.

Mercury mainly gets into our bodies by the fish we eat. Only high levels of this metal seem to be harmful to developing babies. So the risk of mercury in fish and shellfish depends on the amount and type you eat.

By following some tips you can get the healthy protein and omega-3 fatty acids in fish and avoid mercury. Use these guidelines:

Do NOT eat any shark, swordfish, king mackerel, or tilefish (also called golden or white snapper) because these fish have high levels of mercury.
Do not eat more than six ounces of "white" or "albacore" tuna or tuna steak each week.
Do not eat more than 2 servings or 12 ounces total of fish per week.
Choose shrimp, salmon, pollock, catfish, or "light" tuna as they contain less mercury.

Actually, it's the fresh fish that's risky because of the parasites, sushi is fine since it's frozen first which kills the parasites. Why they ask you to avoid fish like salmon because of the mercury levels which can be harmful to the development of your baby.

Hope it helps.
