Default Does canned Tuna Fish expire?

I came home from work today to see that my husband had thrown away an entire case of canned albacore tuna that he had sitting in his office for a while. It upset me because I knew it was $$$.
I know the old saying "When in doubt, throw it out", but was that really necessary?

I must have been really old.
as long as the cans are in good shape, no bulging, no rust , it should have been fine.

Both the canned albacore tuna and wild king salmon have shelf lives of approximately 8-10 years! In fact, the longer you are able to store your cans before eating them the better! By letting the cans slightly age, the natural juices and oils can settle into the fish, which increases its soft flakey texture. The shellfish we carry have a shelf life of 2-3 years. There is no apparent expiration date on each can; the expiration date is found within the cannery code.

If the cans were sitting inside and not outside like in a garage,,,,(they rust out there)....and the cans were not bulging,,they should have been fine,,,an expiration date on them,,,means they can't be sold past that,,,not that they are no good any more...after Y2K,,,I had a lot of stored tuna,,and it kept for a few years,,,,I don't think I would eat if if it was more than three years old though...if it was packed in oil....oil goes rancid but if it was packed in water,,,,it would have been fine for quite a while.
